Care Instructions

How to care for your Upcycled/Handmade Risk pieces!

Applique Sweatshirts

Generally you can machine wash inside-out,
-Air Dry is recommended to prevent pilling and wear!

Fold in storage, hanging causes stretching to the shoulders.

(Some applique sweatshirts have fragile interactive elements that require handwashing)
I will provide care instructions with every package/site listing.

Do not wash interactive pieces that are removable (aka Velcro hats etc)

Handkerchief Skirts

Always handwash and hang dry!!!

The amount of fabric, weight of garment, and types of fabric used in these skirts make them fragile.

Washing machines and dryers will pull and tug at all the fabric and cause holes,

My best recommendation for handwashing:
Fill a tote with warm water. Some of the fabrics are made of silk and may dye bleed.
Agitate water, if water does not appear to be leaching dye, add detergent and soak.
If water had dye, keep emptying water until clear (or mostly clear)

Wring out water gently, lay over a towel and press out excess water. Hang to air dry.

Steam out wrinkles, do not iron!

Tapestry Blanket Jackets

Most are machine washable!

I wash every blanket prior to sewing, but sometimes vintage dyes will bleed after several washes.

Undo buttons to prevent pulling,

Wash in warm water with dark colors. Sometimes zippers and hard pieces from clothes will cause pulls to tapestry.

Air dry is always better than machine drying.

Pull out of the washing machine and hang on a hanger to air dry. Direct a fan towards it to speed up to process.

Fold in storage is best to protect shoulders.

Iron if needed.

Scarves

Generally, handwashing and air drying is best!

The length can get tangled in the machine, and applique, material of the other knit/crotchet scarves can be fragile.

I will try my best to provide care instructions for each individual piece!

Ants Pants / Fabric Marker

Machine wash inside out best!

You can air dry or machine dry, but air drying is always best for longevity.

If the fabric marker (ants) starts to fade over time, trace back over them! I use the Sharpie Rub-A-Dub Washable Fabric Marker

Iron inside out, do not iron over applique, as some fabrics may melt.

Fold or hang in storage.
